American University in Rome

Today was my first day of classes at AUR. After walking up nearly 240 steps to get to Monteverde, where are school is located, I was a little winded to say the least. My classes were really interesting and I look forward to learning a lot about the italian language and culture. Just around the corner on Via Carini, is a place called Pizzeria da Simone. It is a small shop with long counters, primarily for takeaway. The pizzas here are long and narrow and you can buy your pizza by the slice which is then cut and folded into a sort of pizza sandwich. Being in Rome and not loving pizza, is a bit of a problem; however, they sure look amazing!

First Week in Rome

After much anticipation I have finally arrived in Rome! This first week has been a whirlwind to say the least! I am finally getting past the jet lag and becoming acclimated with my surroundings. In this past week there has been so much that has gone on. The guided tours of the ancient city, the amazing nightlife, the friendly people, and the amazing food has made me realized I have found a new home away from home. Missing my boyfriend, Dylan, and my family is always a constant struggle, but this smooth transition into living abroad has given me hope and has gotten me excited for amazing things that are sure to come my way. Here are a few photos to give you something to enjoy until next time!

Hello World!

So here it goes... I have always wanted to start a blog, but everyime I attempted to make one it failed miserably. This upcoming semester I will be studying abroad in Rome and I thought there could not be a better way to inform my friends and family of what I have been up to while overseas. I also hope that this blog will help me become more aware of my surroundings as I travel around Europe as well as help me on my path to discovering the person I am. I leave the 24th of January and am nervous as anything. Even though I am traveling with 8 of my sorority sisters, the unkown elements freak me out a bit. The preparation, plugs, passports, visas, leaving my boyfriend, family and friends, all the knit-picky stuff gives me anxiety. BUT, in reality I know I am about to embark on the most amazing and unforgettable experience that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
